Welcome to Therapy
What to Expect, How to Prepare, and How I’ll Support You.
You’ve taken a meaningful step
Beginning therapy is an act of courage. Whether you are feeling overwhelmed, uncertain, or simply curious about what healing might look like, I want you to know, you are not expected to have it all figured out. You have already done something brave by reaching out — and I am here to walk beside you.
This guide is here to help you feel more informed, more supported, and more emotionally prepared as we begin our work together.
What to Expect in Your First Session
Your first session is a gentle starting point. We will talk about what brings you to therapy, what you are hoping to explore, and what you would like to feel more of in your life. I will ask questions to better understand your background, and you are welcome to share as much or as little as feels comfortable.
There is no pressure to “perform” or explain everything at once. We move at your pace, with care and curiosity.
My Approach to Therapy
I offer a trauma-informed, attachment-based approach that is tailored to your emotional rhythm and lived experience. I draw from:
- Attachment-Based Therapy (ABT) — to explore relationship patterns and emotional bonds
- Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) — to help transform emotions and build more secure bonds
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) — to shift unhelpful thought patterns and build healthier habits
Together, we will gently uncover what has been weighing on you, build tools for emotional regulation, and create space for healing and growth.
Preparing for Your Session
You do not need to prepare anything formal — but here are a few things that might help:
- If we are meeting online — choose a quiet, private space where you feel safe and uninterrupted. A comfortable chair, a cup of tea, or a cozy blanket can help you feel more grounded.
- If we are meeting in person — you will be welcomed into a warm, calming space in Calgary designed to support emotional safety and ease.
- Bring your questions, concerns, or hopes — therapy is a collaborative process. You are welcome to ask anything that is on your mind.
- It is okay to feel nervous — many people do. I will meet you with warmth, steadiness, and respect for your emotional pace.
Confidentiality & Care
Your privacy matters deeply. I follow the ethical guidelines of the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW) and all relevant privacy legislation. What you share with me stays protected, with clear limits explained during intake.
A Note on Fees & Scheduling
Sessions are $225 per hour. Most clients begin with weekly or bi-weekly appointments, and we will work together to find a rhythm that supports your healing. If you have questions about coverage or affordability, I invite you to visit the Rates & Insurance page or reach out directly.
A Final Word
Therapy is not about being perfect — it is about being real. It is a space to feel, reflect, and reconnect with who you are beneath the noise. I am here to support you with compassion, clarity, and care.
Whether you navigating anxiety, grief, trauma, neurodivergence, or relationship stress, you deserve a space where your story is held with tenderness and truth.
