Family Therapy in Calgary

A Place to Be Heard, Together

“Connection is why we’re here; it is what gives purpose and meaning to our lives.”
— Brené Brown

Holding the Whole Story

Families are like rivers — shaped by time, weathered by experience, and always moving. Sometimes the current flows smoothly, and other times it feels turbulent, with emotions crashing against each other in ways that are hard to navigate. When one part of the river is blocked or overwhelmed, the whole system feels it.

Family therapy offers a place to pause at the riverbank — to notice the flow, understand the undercurrents, and gently clear what has been obstructed. At Emotional Wellness Therapy, I support families in Calgary and virtually across Alberta with trauma-informed, attachment-based counselling that honours each voice and holds the whole system with care.

Whether you are navigating conflict, grief, neurodivergence, or shifting roles, I help families move from reactivity to reflection, from disconnection to dialogue.

What We Can Work Through

Families often come to therapy when things feel stuck, but they do not always know why. That is okay. Together, we will explore the emotional patterns, relational dynamics, and unspoken needs that shape your family’s experience.

Family therapy can support you with:

  • Communication breakdowns and emotional misattunement
  • Parent-child conflict, sibling tension, or blended family stress
  • ADHD and neurodivergence, including emotional regulation and executive functioning challenges
  • Grief, loss, and transitions — such as divorce, relocation, or role changes
  • Intergenerational trauma and relational ruptures
  • Anxiety, emotional overwhelm, and negative thought patterns within the family system
  • Creating space for forgiveness, empathy, and reconnection

You do not need to have a perfect family to benefit from therapy. You just need a space where your story can be heard — and your relationships can begin to heal.

My Approach

I work with families across generations — parents and children, siblings, grandparents, chosen family — because relationships are dynamic and ever-evolving. I do not take sides. I hold the whole system with curiosity, compassion, and a deep respect for complexity.

Using CBT, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and attachment-based, trauma-informed care, I help families build emotional safety, strengthen communication, and shift patterns that no longer serve. Sessions are collaborative, developmentally attuned, and tailored to your family’s unique rhythm.

We will slow things down, make space for what has been missed, and begin to rewrite the story — together.

Therapy Goals & Outcomes

Through family therapy, you can expect to:

  • Improve emotional regulation and co-regulation across the family system
  • Strengthen communication, empathy, and mutual understanding
  • Reduce anxiety, reactivity, and emotional overwhelm
  • Heal attachment wounds and rebuild relational safety
  • Support neurodivergent family members with attuned strategies
  • Navigate transitions and role shifts with more clarity and connection
  • Create space for grief, forgiveness, and emotional repair
  • Foster a sense of belonging, trust, and shared resilience

These changes often begin with a single moment of understanding — and grow through consistent care, reflection, and relational courage.
