Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Rewiring Thought Patterns, Restoring Emotional Balance

“Everything we hear is an opinion, not a fact. Everything we see is a perspective, not the truth.”
— Marcus Aurelius

A Gentle, Practical Path to Emotional Wellness

At Emotional Wellness Therapy, I use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to help you gently examine the thoughts and behaviours that may be keeping you stuck. CBT is a structured, evidence-informed approach that empowers you to take an active role in your healing — without judgment, and without pressure to “just think positively.”

I believe that our thoughts, emotions, and behaviours are deeply interconnected. When life feels overwhelming — whether due to anxiety, depression, emotional dysregulation, or relationship stress — it is often because our internal dialogue has become rigid, self-critical, or distorted. These patterns can quietly shape how we feel, how we cope, and how we relate to others.

CBT offers a way to pause, reflect, and rewire.

How CBT Works in My Practice

As a Clinical Social Worker with over two decades of experience in child, adolescent, and adult mental health, I tailor CBT to meet you exactly where you are — developmentally, emotionally, and relationally. My approach is collaborative, trauma-informed, and always grounded in compassion. Together, we will explore:

  • Cognitive distortions — identifying unhelpful thinking habits like catastrophizing, black-and-white thinking, or personalization
  • Automatic negative thoughts — noticing the quiet scripts that fuel anxiety, shame, or self-doubt
  • Core beliefs — uncovering the deeper stories you have internalized about yourself, others, and the world
  • Reality testing — gently challenging distressing thoughts and replacing them with balanced, compassionate perspectives
  • Behavioural strategies — building new habits that align with your values and support emotional regulation
  • Mindful awareness — learning to observe your thoughts without judgment and respond with intention

CBT is not about perfection — it is about progress. It is about learning to respond to your thoughts with clarity and curiosity, so you can move forward with greater emotional resilience and self-understanding.
